Production Artist – Visual Novel Assets
Location: Remote
Position Type: Monthly Retainer (Hourly Rate × Monthly Capacity)
At Inkweaver, we’re building a visual novel creation tool — and we’re using it to craft our flagship novel. This is your chance to help define the visual language of the project and the Inkweaver ecosystem itself.
We’re looking for an artist eager to grow their craft, work from clear specifications, and create assets that will shape the look and feel of our story. This is a 3-6 month retainer role with potential for extension.
What You’ll Do
As a production artist, you will create visual assets that bring the story to life:
- Painterly Backgrounds: Atmospheric environments that evoke mood, lighting, and texture.
- Modular Character Sprites: Layered expressions and poses designed for reuse.
- Asset Preparation: Organize PSD files with clean layers and conventions for seamless integration.
Who You Are
- Illustrative: You love visible brushwork, texture, and using light to tell a story.
- Atmospheric: You can convey emotion and tone through color and composition.
- Technically Fluent: Comfortable delivering clean, layered PSDs.
Experience with game art, visual novels, or modular assets is a plus — but not required. What matters most is creativity, precision, and an eye for mood and detail.

- Character Task: Show progression from gesture to rough modular sketch.
- Environment Task: Create a small color/mood study based on reference.
Finalists may be invited to a second, paid study for character consistency and final rendering quality.
All test work remains yours and will not be used in production.
